Work log: Project Neon — site live, First Update

Share

Stood up seshadripv.com as a personal web home: Ghost CMS on the existing Hetzner box beside Thalaippu (butter), not a greenfield wipe.

Shipped

  • Public site + Admin over HTTPS (seshadripv.com, staging behind basic auth)
  • Blog and Work Log as separate lanes; work-log entries individually linkable with date + time always shown
  • Editorial theme direction (Hugh Linstead–style shell); no public Sign in / Sign up / membership CTAs
  • Docker only for the Ghost lane; butter left on native systemd; one Caddy fronts both

Decisions

  • Content lives in Ghost (MySQL 8 + content volumes), not git — publish is Preview → Publish in Admin
  • Staging is on-demand / disposable; no content promotion to prod
  • Durability bar: nightly MySQL + content backups, on-box restore drill, then off-box to Hetzner Storage Box with a proven restore-from-Storage-Box → staging

Still open

  • Keep iterating the theme from real use
  • SMTP / mail polish when we need it
  • Photos, games, and any SaaS stay later lanes

Net: the writing home is live, operable, and content survives theme work and VPS loss as long as the nightly off-box job keeps running.
